14th May 10: Bruno Francisco recently completed at the European Duathlon Champs at Nancy on 2nd May and finished 9th in his age group (30-34) and was the 4th GB representative to cross the finish line. The event consisted of a 9km run, 38km cycle and 5km run. Both the run and bike routes were flat, fast but technical with several hairpin turns and chicanes to negotiate. Having suffered cramps in both calves on the bike Bruno miscalculated the number of laps and unfortunately continued for half lap extra before realising the competitors in front were actually a lap behind. He managed to turn round and returned to transition for the final run to finish in a time of 1:57. GB had a successful weekend bringing home medals for most age groups in both the men and women teams including a gold medal in Bruno's age group.
Bruno is currently on the reserve list for World Champs, Edinburgh in September this year and is awaiting for confirmation for team selection later this month.

14th March 10: JTC member Bruno Francisco impresses at UK Duathlon champs.
"I have just come back from the UK National Duathlon Champs at Clumber Park, Nottingham and have found out today that I have qualified to represent GB at the European Duathlon Champs in Nancy, France on 2nd May 2010 for my age group (30-34).
The nationals attracted a large field of over 650 entrants with top class athletes all competing for a place fin the World Champs later this year in Edinburgh in September and European Champs in May. The event also attracted sports celebrity, James Cracknell, who finished in 14th place overall. The weather was freezing with a convenient rain down pour just before the start making the 4ºC feel like below zero. The first 10KM had a lead bunch all running sub 32min followed by me in 34:45 in 25th place overall. The bike leg was an undulating two lap course with the big boys averaging 42km/hr. I lost too many places on the bike to make up on the second run (5KM) in 18:36 to finish 67th overall and 13th in my age group with an overall time of 2:01:57. It was a fantastic day out with the best in the country to put the trusty stead and my legs to the test. The sun eventually came out just after I finished the race... typical.
The next training block will now start for me to peak for the Euros in May with hopefully some French sunshine. See you at the duathlon next weekend."

11th March: The duathlon series continues this weekend with Sunday's race HQ at La Pulente, St. Ouen. The provisional course and distances will be a 5km run including the head-land, up Corbiere hill and long the Railway Walk back to transition. If that hasn't got the legs warmed up then the start of the 33km bike section, involving a trip along the 5 mile road and a steep climb up L'Etacq should do the trick! The rest of the bike includes one and half laps of the Bal Tab circuit and back down Hydrangea Ave to transition. The final run is a 3km out and back along the 5 mile road. I hope I haven't put anyone off! In fact as true multi-sporters we should be relishing the challenge...see you there!!!!!

The junior section have some new members looking for a bike to borrow or maybe buy to get them started. Please get in contact with the committee if you have a bike to spare for a potential super-star.
3rd March: Some shocking news has just reached us. Nick Saunders, Jersey's professional Ironman, was involved in a serious car accident whilst on his way to a race in Cape Town, South Africa, early on Sunday morning. Nick escaped with bruising and lacerations but by all accounts is lucky to be alive after he narrowly avoided a head-on collision. Nick was on his way to race at the 11 Global OD race in Cape Town as a part of his preparation for IM South Africa on April 5th. We'll keep you updated as the news comes in. Our thoughts are with his fiancee, Alexa and family.

The JTC Committee apologise for any inconvenience caused and we look forward to seeing you all then. Please check the updated calendar and results page for more details.
11th Feb: The 2nd Duathlon of the season takes place this Sunday morning at St. Catherines. With good weather forecast (have I just cursed it?) and a course that avoids the "ominous climb" it should be a perfect race to kick the season off for those who didn't brave the wind and rain in January! Sign on is at 8am, briefing at 8.25am and starts at 8.30am. See you there.
