Junior Aquathon 6th August 10 - Results

Jersey Triathlon held a Junior Aquathon for the first time in the island on Friday night at St Catherine. This race served as part of a series of races for juniors this summer and 17 juniors were very excited at the opportunity of show the large crowd what they had been doing it training this summer.

From the go Hugh Percival and Catherine Billington lead out the two laps swim and all were very impressed when the juniors excited the water after the first lap and dived in for the second. Hot on the heals of the leaders was Charlotte Turner and young Connor Henderson who is new to triathlon and the island having proved to be a very competitive swimmer in the UK. Olli Turner was 5th to exit, with Morgan Jones also having a great swim in 6th. In the under 10’s Archie Swain showed his fine swim style to exit well up in the middle of the much older children.

Once out onto the two-lap run out and back along the breakwater it was Catharine who hauled in Hugh and past him with and excellent run split. She would go on to win and show that girls are sometimes stronger then the boys. Hugh had to dig in to hold off the fast finishing Oliver Turner and these two took 2nd & 3rd in the over 10 age group. Ben Le Brocq had the fastest run time to move up to 4th with Jack Lutz also running well. Archie Swain stretched out his early lead in the younger age group to take the win from Jack Kennedy who finished with the fastest sprint of the day. Well done to all the children who now look forward to their big race on Sat 28th August down at Bel Royal the day before the senior race at the same venue.

We would like to thank Dominion Fiduciary services and Pedal Power for their continued support and also thanks to the parents that turn up to help marshal. For more information call Dan Halksworth on 07797785977.

Junior Triathlon - 27.07.10 - Results

Over the weekend we had a junior race up at LQ with a great turn out of 23 children entering the race. The race format was a 100m swim bike and 1.5km run.

Leading the race home was Jack Lutz in a time of 14.58, he had a solid swim and bike followed by the quickest run of the day. Great result from Jack and huge improvement over the last year. Second was Sam Maher in 15.44 and third Hugh Percival in 16.06. Great race between the boys and another noticeable result from the day was a great run from David Raimbault. Leading the girls home in first place was Brooke Lidster finished 4th overall in a time of 17minutes dead. Brooke came away with the quickest swim, bike and run for the girls so a great effort from her. Second was Ella Ward only 22 seconds behind so she wasn't far behind on each discipline. Next to round out the podium was Ella's sister Jade. Great to see her on the podium after a really good season of training. George Daniels in his first triathlon showed great spirit to finish the race and we look forward to seeing him race again soon.

We would like to thank Dominion Fiduciary services and pedal power for their continued support and also a thank to the parents that turn up to help marshal. The next race is on the 6th August, call Dan Halksworth on 07797785977 for more information.

Junior Triathlon - 19.06.10 - Results

With a nice sunny morning we had 29 budding triathletes taking part. The swim was 100m, bike 3km and run 1.5km. Everyone competed the same distance. The race started off with the fastest swimmer off first followed every 10 seconds after by another triathletes as we only had two lanes in the pool. It was a new way of starting a race to us but it was exciting for the Juniors as they had someone to chase the whole way. First across the line was Oliver Turner who really showed how strong his swimming has come along followed by the quickest bike split of the day. Second was Ben Le Brocq in his first triathlon again having a great bike section followed by a great run. Third male was Sam Maher who started of slower but had a blistering run. First girl across the line was Catherine Billington who actually finished 3rd overall was followed closely behind by Charlotte Turner and in 3rd place was Brooke Lidster who is new to the squad and has plenty more to come. For some out there it was their first time on the Triathlon Clubs development bikes kindly sponsored by Pedal Power so it was good to see them being raced around the track. A special well done has to go out to all of them, over the last 2 years they have gone from strength to strength and its great to see them enjoying the training sessions and competing. We are looking at taking a squad away in September to compete in England so the future for Triathlon in Jersey is definitely getting stronger and without the support from Dominion this wouldn't be achievable. The next race is July 17th 9.30 am start at LQ.

Junior Triathlon - 15.05.10 - Results

There was a good turn the first Junior triathlon of the 2010 season alongside the novice triathlon which made it a fun day for all to watch and support.

The race distances were 150m swim 3km bike and 1.5km run around LQ sports track. Hugh Percival took the win in 16.05 with a strong swim and bike to hold off from Sam Maher who showed his strength on the run to come close to Hugh's time in 16.21. Oliver Turner showed another strong performance to come third in 16.52. First girl was Charlotte Turner in 17.11 showing how dominant she has been all season with a fantastic swim and bike. Brooke Lidster had a fantastic race finishing in 18.08 and hopefully we will be seeing her in future races. Sisters Jade and Ella Ward battled it out all the way until Ella stormed home on the run to take 3rd spot in 18.55.

It was a great days racing with some close battles especially in the younger age group with Oliver Daniels and Archie Swain racing each other all the way to have a sprint finish at the end. Oliver taking the win by just 1 second.

We would like to say well done to all those that took part and thank you to the support from LQ sports centre and Domino fiduciary Services. Also Pedal Power for providing the club with some fantastic bikes to loan to the Junior Triathletes. The next race will be on the 19th June 9.30am start at LQ. Junior Aquathlon - 24.04.10

The Junior race consisted of a swim in Aquasplash pool followed by a run around the new marina.

It was a mass start with the junior split up in to their respective age categories. 6,7 & 8's doing 100m 9's and 10's 150m and 11's and older 150m. It was good for spectators to see them start at the same time with different distances as they all exited the pool within a minute of each other to make for an exciting run.

The course was set out so they ran past the Radisson hotel all the way to the end of the pier and back to the pool for the finish line. In the younger age category Adele Maher had a superb race finishing some distance in front of second place Archie Swain.

The second age category was closely fought out by two juniors finishing 6 seconds apart. Luc Mon Petit le Brun taking the win from Henry Dowling.

The older age group had the most entrants with Sam Maher carrying on from his good early season form to take the win some 30 seconds faster than second place Joe Hugh and in third was Hugh Percival. The girls eventual winner was Charlotte Turner followed closely by twins Olivia and Charlotte.

Junior Duathlon - 12.12.09

The first of the junior duathlon races for the 2009/10 season was held on the 12th December. It was a bitterly cold morning but with 18 enthusiastic triathletes ready to race it was hard to think about the cold. The over 10's started the morning off with a 1500m run, 3km bike, and a final 1500m run. As usual everyone was excited about racing so we saw them all sprint off at the start even after strict orders to pace the race. Sam Maher lead after the first section with a great run followed by Olly Turner 20 seconds apart. After the second section it was Hugh Percival showing his strength with the fastest bike split of the day and Olly Turner just 1 second slower but catching Sam. Crossing the finish line first was Sam Maher who managed to hold off the powerful bike from Olly finishing in 18.41. Charlotte Turner was first girl across the line showing some very good pacing, running 9 seconds faster on the second run.

The under 9's race was slightly different with only a 3km bike and 1.5km run. Jack Lutz dominated in this age group with the fastest bike split and run split. Adele Maher trying not to be out done by her older brother showed just how well she has come on since the start of last year with a great time finishing 4th in her age group. Everyone had fantastic races and it’s great to see just how much they have all come on since last year with the introduction of triathlon training sessions with Tuesday evening swim sessions at Aquasplash and Wednesday evening run sessions along the waterfront. If anyone would
like to take part in triathlons we have a race this Sunday starting at 9am around LQ track. Contact Dan Halksworth on 07797785977. The Junior Triathlon Club would like to say a big thank you to Dominion Fiduciary Services Group for their on going support over the last year.
